Membership
Thank you for your interest in the
Bradford Ski Patrol. Membership requires a certain level of commitment,
but the rewards are great. Members learn outdoor emergency care skills,
advanced first aid, and toboggan handling, while meeting fun people with
similar interests. We provide a valuable community service and get great
exercise, improve our skiing and outdoor skills, and have fun at the same
time. If you feel you have the time and energy for membership, we welcome
your efforts and look forward to you joining the Bradford Ski Patrol, as
member of the National Ski Patrol.
What we have to
offer:
First Aid
The National Ski Patrol’s “Outdoor Emergency Care”
course provides training at a level approaching an EMT-1, focusing on non
urban situations.
Ski/Snowboard Skills
Improve your technique and learn sled and toboggan
handling.
Community Service
The Patrol is a volunteer based organization
providing emergency care to active members of our community, and the
skills you learn can be useful in many situations off slope as well. Feel
the satisfaction of helping others.
Have Fun
Train and patrol with other members, the perfect
excuse to exercise, meet new people, learn new skills, and of course, play
on the slopes.
What we require:
As you know, everything has a cost. A small
commitment in time and money provides years of fun and satisfaction.
Time Commitment
Annual training requirements include an OEC refresher
one Sunday in October, lift evacuation training one Sunday in November,
and a brief toboggan handling skills refresher when the season begins.
During the season, patrollers are assigned a duty schedule that typically
is one evening a week, and one weekend a month, December through March.
Each patroller must update his CPR certification annually, courses are
offered at the ski area.
Money
Annual dues are required for all patrollers even
those in the candidate program. Approximately $60.00 covers the National
dues (and Patroller Magazine), the Regional dues, and the Bradford dues.
To Join:
Candidates are expected to complete both the
Ski/Snowboard and Toboggan requirements, as well as completing the Outdoor
Emergency Care course.
The ski/snowboard toboggan course will run one
night a week starting the first week of January. This will be a six week
course that all candidates are required to attend and pass.
The Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC) course starts
early in the winter and continue for approximately 23 weeks, ending in
May. This course will meet once a week and each night’s class will be
approximately 3-4 hours long. In addition to the once a week class, there
will be 3 Saturdays classes during the class schedule for approximately 4
hours. At the end of the course, all candidates must pass the written
exam provided by the National Ski Patrol, and a practical hands on exam at
the ski area.
Candidates also have to purchase books for their OEC
class. These include; Outdoor Emergency Care book, Student Workbook, and
the Patroller Manual. This is a one time fee.
Patrollers provide their own jackets,
skis/snowboards, and maintain patrol belts with basic first aid supplies.

safety organizations in the world, please contact us about our next
